Plan & Analysis: Self-portrait

Week 2 - Session 2

Key moment: A smiling face eventually appears to replace a sad face on the paper trying to identify myself.

It takes time and process to discover the inner side of me to finally figure out who truly am I. Despite the peaks and valleys in life, I'm the one who is always grateful with whatever I come through and every story I experience as all of them would shape me most fully. The smile closing the whole video is also the point to depict how powerful self-discovery is. A loss in emotion only comes when you teeter and fail to empathize with yourself.

How to use sound design and soundtrack:

Because the smiling face is linked with the sad face in the beginning throughout the series of different events which are both gentle and strong, so music with peaceful melodies would be my top choice to close stages of emotions. It's also the moment that sadness is blown away so nothing could be more suitable than a wind sound effect or the background noise of the paper's slight movement.

Discussion:

My portrait focuses on intertwining the ups and downs of myself. They are opposite emotions that I could experience and to enhance that I would be strong, but not all the time, there are lots of moments contributing to forming my portrait comprehensively.

It's the reason why the tone could jump back and forth between serenity and excitability demonstrating successive states of my being.

The sudden cut and transition would be my choice in editing between scenes holding strong feelings. Otherwise, some basic transitions including dissolving or cutting to black are what I'm going to apply to my lighter footage.

Overall, I focus on maintaining a light rhythm and gentle tone as the video theme is based on the passion for discovering bright aspects of life. Some melodies by piano would be prioritized and layered in the background to balance the whole emotional foundation.

Besides, to enhance the peak moments, sound effects are going to be used corresponding to each movement occurring in the video. I'm looking forward to discovering the sound library after categorising footage and making the video basis.
