Week 4 - Session 2

Here are my 45 thumbnail sketches which every 5 sketches on a row represent 1 graphic icon.

My chosen concept is Community.

I intended to create a suite of puzzles to symbolize the whole community where there are people with their missions/jobs contributing to the abundance and lifestyle of the neighbourhood. The common locations in a city for citizens could be represented. Each icon could demonstrate a few details to connect human work and places, then together conveying the value to the community.

As the 9 icons are puzzles, they would be in a piece of jigsaw puzzle shape (which hadn't been illustrated in this sketch yet). To maintain the unification, the following chosen thumbnail sketches are considered as they have the same form and carry a certain layer of meaning each. The space between the outer line and centred elements is always maintained.

  1. The last one: It's a bakery, using the shape of an oval to create both a pack of sandwiches and a store. The outer line should not be geometric but a bit abstract so the pack could look more real.

  2. The 3rd one: An ambulance light in an oval shape surrounded by medicine and a stethoscope to illustrate a hospital.

  3. The 2nd one: A family with a roof over its head. The roof is a triangle. The house is a distorted oval shape.

  4. The 3rd one: Buildings with different heights standing close to each other create an oval-shaped subject as a result. Each building has square windows and the further it is, the darker the colour will be.

  5. The last one: A drumstick representing a supermarket is the central subject within the oval shape.

  6. The 3rd one: An oval-shaped bag of money symbolising the bank in town with the ATM and square window.

  7. The 1st one is a cup of hot coffee with abstract shapes as some steam and a square door illustrating a coffee shop.

  8. The 3rd one: Some books on the shelf with different heights could bring the same features as the mentioned buildings.

  9. The 3rd one: A distorted oval-shaped T-shirt on a hanger could be drawn in more detail after this sketching step. I can insert the store inside the Tee form instead of in the order way around.
